The Faculty of Arts, specifically within the Scientific Department of Archaeology, hosts the Archaeology educational program, which was established in the academic year 1992-1993. The program encompasses 133 units and offers 118 courses, with a minimum duration of 8 academic semesters required for graduation. To date, the program has seen the successful graduation of 136 students.
Many countries rely on their institutions to provide social services due to their significant importance in various aspects. One of the main goals of the Department of Social Work in offering this type of service is to raise awareness and develop societal consciousness among individuals of different age groups and backgrounds. This is achieved through activities that aim to introduce the importance of heritage, particularly from a social perspective, in shaping individual identities. By acquainting individuals with their history, civilization, ancestral values, and ways of life, there is a positive impact on fostering a sense of belonging to their country and civilization. This, in turn, brings individuals closer to their nation's history, promotes national values, and strengthens national loyalty.
The program aims to prepare scientific and technical professionals in the field of archaeology, ensuring they possess the requisite artistic, scientific, and cognitive skills. It emphasizes the development of essential capabilities, incorporating the use of modern techniques in archaeological work. Additionally, the program seeks to contribute to the preservation and protection of cultural heritage in Libya by offering scientific consultations on archaeological sites to institutions and government sectors. Furthermore, it strives to foster scientific collaboration with academic institutions in Libya, actively participating in or organizing specialized conferences and scientific seminars focused on archaeological studies.
Graduates
of the Archaeology program enjoy diverse career opportunities, offering a
fulfilling professional life. They can find roles in museums associated with
the Antiquities Authority, serving as curators, technicians, and information
providers to visitors. Opportunities also exist in research and expertise
positions within the Antiquities Authority, as well as engaging in research and
excavation work. Graduates may participate in government-led restoration
projects at various archaeological levels. A Bachelor's degree in Archaeology
is particularly relevant for roles in tourism guidance. Moreover, pursuing
further studies allows graduates to qualify for teaching positions at
universities, expanding their career horizons in the academic realm.
