The Department of Sharia, Faculty of Sharia and Law, Alasmarya Islamic University offers a Masters in Islamic Jurisprudence. The program has 39 units and 10 courses (8 core courses and two electives -out of four), and requires a minimum of 3 semesters of study for graduation. Ten batches of students have been enrolled in the program and there are 50 graduates.

As one of the post-graduate programs in the department of Sharia, this Masters programs was established in 2006 under decree No. 02. The program vision includes leadership, excellence and innovation in higher studies and scientific research and serving the society at the local and international levels. The program mission focuses on positive contributions to the development of Libya through offering high quality higher studies programs as well as improving the quality of scientific research in the country. In addition, the program seeks partnerships with other institutions on the national as well as the international levels in order to promote production and dissemination of knowledge in support of national development. Such plans reflect the international trend of scientific research and have positive impact on the local community.          

The program goals can be summarized as follows: First, preparing students to be distinguished in their specialties and graduating highly qualified cadres equipped with skills in leadership and scientific research in order to keep pace with contemporary developments in science and technology. Second, inculcating moral values and integrity in preparing research papers and projects among students in higher studies programs. Third, training higher studies students to be able to professionally write dissertations following rigorous scientific research methods. Fourth, establishing effective partnerships with other academic institutions that offer similar post-graduate programs which helps preventing plagiarism and improves the quality of scientific research. Fifth, maintaining a culture of innovation in the institutional work environment.

Graduates can pursue jobs in a number of areas. For example, they can take positions in higher education and in institutes and universities. In addition, graduates can take positions in organizations concerned with organizing the society, religious guidance and calling to Allah; for example, Fatwa Council and Ministry of Religious Endowments. Graduates can also pursue job opportunities in financial supervision in Islamic financial institutions and banks. Graduates can also seek positions in community services like dispute resolution and Sharia-based arbitration.
