Innovative educational program trains personnel focused on scientific, experimental research, teaching activities in the field of groundwater science and their interaction with rocks, surface waters and atmosphere. Graduates are awarded PhD academic degree.

Course main objectives are mastering basic concepts of hydrogeology, studying the laws of groundwater movement and formation of their chemical composition, methods of field and laboratory hydrogeological research and forecasting principles.

Doctoral students study regional hydrogeology and engineering geology, operational exploration of groundwater, engineering geological exploration, oil hydrogeology. Much attention is paid to intellectual entrepreneurship, development of applied projects for real economy and commercialization of launched projects.

You will know basic methods of solving tasks in the field of engineering and technology in hydrogeological and engineering-geological industries, legislative and other regulatory materials related to organizing and functioning of hydrogeological and engineering-geological industries.

Doctoral students are actively involved in research projects under foreign consultants’ guidance. Plans for doctoral studies include mandatory internship at leading foreign universities. Two scientific advisors, a national and a foreign one, supervise dissertation work and its defense.

Doctoral students undergo practical training in hydrogeological, exploration and mining companies throughout Kazakhstan, as part of a two-diploma training with French universities. Under academic mobility programs, they undergo internships at leading foreign universities.

Graduates work in exploration expeditions, geophysical and drilling parties, in design organizations. The main tasks of a hydrogeologist are to search for water sources, assess their volumes, industrial significance, develop measures to protect deposits from groundwater, solve technological problems of pumping out the given waters, and compile hydrogeological area maps.

Graduates work as teachers, researchers at investigation centers, universities, national and private companies and other organizations conducting research, design and educational activities in various economy sectors.
