Admission Requirements

General eligibility conditions

To be eligible as a regular student, the candidate must meet the general eligibility conditions (section XI) of the Educational Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

Required diplomas and admission thresholds: Quebec

To meet the Université de Montréal average of 3.0 out of 4.3, candidates from this province must meet the following requirements:

Accepted diploma: Baccalaureate, Bachelor; duration of 3 years, or another undergraduate degree deemed equivalent.

  • Higher Technology School: 3.0/4.3
  • HEC Montreal: 3.0/4.3

Conditions specific to this program

To be eligible as a regular student for the MA (German Studies), the candidate must:

  • meet the general eligibility conditions (section XI of the Educational Regulations) for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
  • hold an honors BA or a BA with a major in German studies or demonstrate equivalent training. Candidates from a related discipline or who have only obtained a minor in German studies in their BA may be admitted provided they complete their training with undergraduate courses not exceeding 24 credits.
  • have obtained an average of at least 3.0 out of 4.3 or the equivalent in their previous German studies, or even in the required complementary courses
  • demonstrate good knowledge of French and English
  • have successfully completed a minimum of 12 German language course credits or demonstrate knowledge deemed equivalent. The Academic Management Committee may impose additional courses on the student if it deems it necessary.
