The mission of the master's degree in public health from the UdeM School of Public Health (ESPUM) is to train professionals, as well as researchers, in public health who can intervene and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in relating to the health and well-being of populations. Its approach promotes the development of values ​​and rigorous ethical principles, allowing you to exercise your professional practice both in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada and around the world.

The master's degree is aimed at holders of an undergraduate degree from  a wide variety of disciplines such as psychology, communication, chemistry, political science, sociology, all areas of health and education sciences.. It is also aimed at professional staff wishing to progress in their career.

The master's program has 2 pathways:

Modality with memory

Opt for the Research option if you wish to complete the master's degree in public health with thesis. The dissertation is carried out on a public health theme, either in epidemiological surveillance, health promotion, global health, environmental health, One Health, or even health systems and policies. Completing a master's degree with thesis opens the way both to jobs in administrations related to public health and to pursuing doctoral studies in public health or related disciplines.

Modality with internship or supervised work

At the end of your training, you will be able to:

  • Analyze a public health problem or issue
  • Plan and implement public health programs and health-promoting public policies
  • Demonstrate scientific rigor in all your public health actions
  • Act ethically and responsibly
  • Engage in a professional development process
  • Communicate information effectively to different audiences
  • Participate in the concerted action of interprofessional and intersectoral teams
