Unique in North America, the doctorate in applied human sciences (SHA) is structured around interdisciplinarity and the search for solutions to practical problems. It thus focuses on the collaboration of different types of knowledge for the concrete benefit of humans. Pursuing a doctoral approach in SHA is suitable for researchers for whom science can and must contribute to improving the face of the world. This approach is also very suitable for practitioners who, after work experience, choose to take stock and equip themselves with new theoretical instruments.

Interdisciplinarity allows you to ask research questions that could not be asked within a single discipline, thus giving you great freedom of scientific expression. It does not threaten disciplinarity. On the contrary, it feeds on it. The dialogue between doctoral researchers with initial training and such varied backgrounds is thus a strength of the SHA program, because each brings a complementary vision, and the scientific discourse grows through this open exchange.

The search for solutions to practical problems is linked to interdisciplinarity, because sometimes a solution requires different knowledge or disciplines. Interdisciplinarity is therefore this integration of knowledge in order to solve a problem, and to build paths of action, intervention (professional, humanitarian, public, etc.) and applied science.
