The doctorate in religious sciences allows you to discover or deepen the different faces of spirituality and to interpret the manifestations of religion in society. Become a researcher open to interdisciplinarity, capable of carrying out high-level research in the university sectors, private enterprise or in the public domain. This program also aims to train professionals in relevant sectoral fields.
The religious sciences programs at UdeM offer a description, analysis and understanding of religious phenomena based mainly on anthropology, history, philosophy, sociology, psychoanalysis, cultural studies and political sciences, but also in critical dialogue with theology.
At the heart of a metropolis renowned for its cultural, ethnic and religious diversity, the Institute of Religious Studies aims to integrate fundamental and applied research to deepen religions according to their contexts and challenges. Its approach in theology, religious sciences and spirituality favors an interdisciplinary approach and draws on the human and social sciences.

Admission Requirements
General eligibility conditions
To be eligible as a regular student, the candidate must meet the general eligibility conditions (section XX) of the Educational Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
Required diplomas and admission thresholds: Quebec
To meet the Université de Montréal average of 3.3 out of 4.3, candidates from this province must meet the following requirements:
Degree accepted: Masters, Masters; duration: 2 years
Minimum average:
- Bishop: 80%
- Concordia University: 3.3/4.3
- Higher Technology School: 3.3/4.3
- HEC Montreal: 3.3/4.3
- McGill University: 3.0/4.0
- Polytechnique Montréal: 3.0/4.0

To be eligible as a regular Ph.D. student (religious sciences), the candidate must:
- meet the general eligibility conditions (section XX) of the Educational Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
- hold a master's degree in religious sciences or provide proof of training deemed equivalent
- have obtained an average of at least 3.3 out of 4.3 or the equivalent in the 2nd cycle
