The programs in North American common law have been structured around the training already acquired by Quebec jurists: civil law in private legal relationships, Anglo-Canadian common law in public legal relationships.

Using a theoretical, critical and pragmatic approach, some courses are offered in the form of lectures, others in the form of seminars, and still others in the form of problem-based learning.

It is by taking into account the globalization of trade, the economic integration of the Americas and the particular legal needs that these phenomena arouse that the objectives of this training have been set:

  • Train specialists in private international law who have a thorough knowledge not only of the rules of conflict, but also of the substantive law of other legal systems;
  • Prepare students to meet the bar requirements of other Canadian provinces (by obtaining the certificate of professional qualification for students admitted before fall 2012) and of American states;
  • Train specialists in comparative law.
