The Doctor of Vision Science program is a joint program of the Faculty of Medicine (Department of Ophthalmology) and the School of Optometry.
Goals:
General This Option aims to train specialists capable of pursuing a career as consultants, professors, researchers in vision sciences, and to stimulate the production of original research in vision sciences.
Low Vision and Vision Rehabilitation This Option aims to train specialists capable of pursuing a career as consultants, teachers, researchers in low vision and rehabilitation, and to stimulate the production of original research in vision rehabilitation.
Cellular and Molecular Biology This Option aims to train specialists capable of pursuing a career as consultants, professors, researchers in cellular and molecular biology of the visual system, and to stimulate the production of original research in cellular and molecular biology of the visual system..
Biology of Vision Diseases The purpose of this Option is to train specialists capable of pursuing a career as consultants, professors, researchers in the biology of vision diseases, and to stimulate the production of original research in visual pathologies.
Neurosciences of vision and psychophysics This Option aims to train specialists capable of pursuing a career as consultants, professors, researchers in visual neurosciences and psychophysics, and to stimulate the production of original research on the retina, the visual brain and the visual perception.
Optics, Instrumentation and Imaging The purpose of this Option is to train specialists capable of pursuing a career as consultants, professors, researchers in optics, instrumentation and imaging and to stimulate the production of original research on diagnostic and therapeutic tools for vision.
Clinical sciences and epidemiology This Option aims to train specialists capable of pursuing a career as consultants, professors, researchers in clinical sciences and epidemiology and to stimulate the production of original research on the visual health of individuals and populations.

Admission requirements

Undergraduate

3.3+
To be eligible as a regular Ph.D. student (vision sciences), the candidate must:
  • meet the general eligibility conditions (section XI) of the Academic Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
  • hold an M.Sc. (vision science) or equivalent degree in an appropriate discipline
  • have obtained in the 2nd cycle an average of at least 3.3 out of 4.3 or the equivalent
  • demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the French and English languages.
