The master's degree in landscape architecture aims to transmit knowledge and skills in the analysis, planning and design of landscapes at different scales, ranging from the garden to the territory. During this specialized training, you learn to design, enhance, manage and protect landscapes while taking into account issues such as climate change, the reduction of natural resources and biodiversity.

This program is aimed at people with training in urban planning, architecture, environmental design, environmental sciences, geography, agronomy or any other similar field. The courses and project workshops allow you to develop skills in designing, planning and developing intervention strategies on landscapes, based on critical thinking. At the same time, you have the opportunity to participate in large-scale projects that affect the landscape, in collaboration with other planning professionals and disciplines.

General eligibility conditions

To be eligible as a regular student, the candidate must meet the general eligibility conditions (section XI) of the Educational Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

Required diplomas and admission thresholds: Quebec

To meet the Université de Montréal average of 3.0 out of 4.3, candidates from this province must meet the following requirements:

Accepted diploma: Baccalaureate, Bachelor; duration of 3 years, or another undergraduate degree deemed equivalent.

Conditions specific to this program

To be eligible as a regular student for the master's degree in landscape architecture, the candidate must:

  • meet the general eligibility conditions (section XI) of the Educational Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
  • hold an undergraduate degree in landscape architecture or an equivalent diploma in a discipline related to planning (e.g.: architecture, urban planning, industrial design, environmental design, geography, planning of the territory and agronomy)
  • hold an undergraduate degree in a discipline other than planning and demonstrate relevant experience or training
  • have obtained in the 1st cycle, an average of at least 3.0 out of 4.3 (or the equivalent) or the average required by the original university for admission to a 2nd cycle program, if this is higher
Students must be fluent in French and have sufficient knowledge of English.
