The Master's Degree in Inter-American Literatures offers its students the option of obtaining a double degree thanks to the current link with the Master's Degree in Inter-American Studies at the University of Bielefeld, Germany. Both programs have the primary objective of studying the literatures and cultures of the various regions of the American continent, both north, central and south, and specifically investigating the interrelationships and interactions between them. This is what the cooperation between the Department of Literary Studies of the University of Guadalajara (DEL) and the Center for Inter-American Studies of the University of Bielefeld (CIAS) has focused on.  
The Master of Inter-American Studies addresses these topics from an interdisciplinary vision (Literary Studies, Linguistics, Cultural and Media Studies, Latin American Studies, North American Studies, Historiography, Social Sciences), and the Master of Inter-American Literatures concentrates in the studies of literature and culture in the inter-American context. In short, both programs share the same purposes, and address the same topics through an interdisciplinary approach. At the same time, the two programs are complementary to the extent that one provides specialization in literary studies and the other, cultural studies of the Americas. 
The common research projects developed in both the Department of Literary Studies and the Center for Inter-American Studies are the basis for integrating the curricula of the two Master's programs, which allows the option of a double degree. There is already an extensive history of academic relations between both university departments, the DEL and the CIAS, dating back to 2004 and encompassing exchanges of students and professors, academic stays, organization of seminars, colloquiums and workshops, thesis tutoring, collaboration in joint research works and publications.
It is expected that the academic activities carried out in other university bodies such as the Center for Advanced Latin American Studies (CALAS, for its acronym in English: Center for Advanced Latin American Studies), the Julio Cortázar Latin American Chair and the Carmen Balcells Documental Center, for example, are linked to the curricula of this binational program as support and strengthening the academic development of students and teachers both at the level of teaching, research and the dissemination of literature and cultures of the Americas.

  • Have a degree or bachelor's degree in letters and proof of completion of the social service degree, or in related humanistic careers that, in the opinion of the Academic Board, offer the applicant an adequate basis to pursue the Master's Degree in Inter-American Literatures.
  • Accredit a minimum average of 80, with an original certificate or document that is comparable to previous studies, as the case may be.
  • Present a preliminary research project, to be carried out during the Master's Degree, that is part of the guiding axis of the postgraduate degree (inter-American literature) in its historical and cultural context and whose development, the Academic Board determines as viable.
  • Submit and pass a reading-comprehension exam in any of the inter-American languages ​​(French, Portuguese, English, and, if applicable, an indigenous language) that are required for the full development of the respective research projects, throughout length of the program. The verification of this requirement may be through official certificates issued by institutions of recognized prestige with level B1 of the Common European Framework or its equivalent. In the case of the option for the double degree, it will be necessary to have a B2 level of English, that is, to speak and read English.
  • In the event that the Academic Board decides to implement a preparatory course, applicants must take it and pass it.
  • Take and pass the admission exam.
  • Letter of explanation of reasons to study the program.
  • Interview with the Academic Board of the program.
  • Register in SIIAU and cover the corresponding fees.
  • Those who establish the call.
