In a general approach to the problems of cities, increasingly accentuated in the issue of urban mobility and transport, highlights the need to carry out studies on their development, their creative possibilities, renovation of infrastructures, equipment, the materials and technical capacities, as well as the methods and technologies on which they can be supported in each of their variants.
It is in the big cities where, to a greater degree, the conditions of poverty are evident and where the majority of the population demands that the media, individuals and institutions assume the advances of science and technology; the foregoing, to enrich the awareness and knowledge of reality, in order to give more certainty in the construction of the city. It is essential to address the urban problem and the prevailing inability to achieve solutions in terms of mobility, transport and its relationship with the elements that structure the city: neighborhoods, housing, public and private space.
The complexity of the issue of mobility and the transport of people and goods in cities, foreseen in the metropolitan urban scenarios of the 21st century, is a concern that concerns the different spheres: governmental, academic, business and social, which work in the middle of the conflicts of an exponential growth of the vehicle fleet and of the deficiencies of the public transport service. Likewise, the study of mobility processes is in a period of renovation of its working methods, its results and application, at the same time that it faces the insufficiency of specialists in the field linked to environmental and sustainable processes.
Architects, engineers, and urban planners (among other professionals), today face the need to improve their research methods, analyze social demands, and create systems that, despite the complexity of the urban phenomenon, the multiplicity of factors and variables that condition it, lead to a comprehensive and optimal solution for the development of our cities. The issue of urban mobility, transport and territory, as well as sustainability, provide the conditions for training specialists with a high capacity for multidisciplinary teamwork, with the efficiency required to manage the dynamics of cultural and socioeconomic transformations. in our cities.
The coverage reached by this doctoral program includes all the productive sectors, both public and private, in which the objective is to identify social needs and generate solutions to the problem of mobility and urban transport, considering that the city is a dynamic entity that is in constant evolution, changes its structures, its forms and its processes continuously and therefore requires the organization of the different sectors that comprise it, as well as their active and timely intervention.
The doctoral program is then located on the margins and paradigms of multidisciplinarity and even transdisciplinarity, contributing to the enrichment and possible consolidation as a line of generation and application of knowledge.
