The Doctorate in Geography and Territorial Planning is coordinated by the Center for Strategic Studies for Development (CEED), belonging to the University Center for Social Sciences and Humanities (CUCSH), the University Center of the Coast (CUC) and the University Center of the Valleys (CUValles), from the University of Guadalajara. Since November 2013, it has been part of the National Registry of Quality Postgraduate Studies (PNPC) of the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT).
The postgraduate course is aimed at teachers who have graduated from the fields of knowledge of Social Sciences and Humanities, Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, Economic-Administrative Sciences and other related fields. Therefore, the candidates must be interested in the study of territorial phenomena and their ordering. This postgraduate course is recently registered in the National Strategic Programs (PRONACES) of CONACYT in the modality: Priority topics for the study of policies and instruments of urban development and land use planning for fair access to habitat, in order to build a New Urban Agenda in the country. 
The academic program of the Doctorate in Geography and Territorial Planning is a program with a focus on research, school modality, tutorial and full-time dedication, the duration is 4 years equivalent to 8 semesters, covering 166 total credits to obtain the degree.

  • Master's degree or certificate of degree exam; Professionals graduated from the fields of knowledge of the social sciences and humanities, environmental sciences, earth sciences, economic-administrative sciences and other related fields may enroll in the doctoral program, in the opinion of the Academic Board.
  • Submit a research protocol endorsed by a researcher authorized by the Academic Board.
  • Reading-comprehension of a foreign language, preferably English, with a TOEFL level of 420.
  • Evidence academic background on the line of research to which you intend to enroll (preferably specialized publications).
  • Those additional ones that the call establishes.
