The Master of Science in Chemistry program began in 1995 as a professional graduate program. Around 1999, its focus shifted to research, positioning it as a candidate for inclusion in the then-named CONAHCYT Registry of Excellence, an objective achieved in 2001. This marked the beginning of the program's uninterrupted history as a recipient of CONAHCYT distinctions in its various categories. This research-oriented Master's program is designed for graduates in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields. It is an academic program directly integrated with the Doctorate in Chemistry, and its curriculum, distributed in three areas of training (Selective Particular Basic, Compulsory Specialization and Open Elective), encompasses learning units related to the LIES of Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry and Chemistry of Macromolecules.


All of these programs allow students to develop, together with their advisor, a research project and a final document (thesis) focused on and applicable to areas such as health, the environment, food, industrial processes, new materials, nanotechnology, or theoretical developments, among others, impacting priority topics described in the CONAHCYT document “AGREEMENT ESTABLISHING THE AREAS AND TOPICS OF GRADUATE PROGRAMS.” The Master of Science in Chemistry currently boasts a highly regarded faculty, comprised of 17 core faculty members and 11 recently appointed PhDs who have strengthened the research lines of this graduate program.


All possess the PRODEP desirable profile recognition, and 96% are members of the National System of Researchers; 3 with level III, 7 in the SNII and 17 at level I.

Admission Requirements

The REQUIREMENTS for admission to the Master of Science in Chemistry are:
  1. Prepare a complete file that includes the following documents:  


  • Degree certificate or diploma in one of the following fields: Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or related fields. This affinity will be determined by the Academic Board;
  • Official proof of undergraduate grades. Minimum average of 80 or equivalent; in exceptional cases, an additional evaluation will be conducted for applicants with the lowest average.
  • Copy of Curriculum Vitae with supporting documents
  • Letter of intent explaining the reasons for entering the program;
  • Two letters of support signed by two professors or researchers from a higher education institution that endorse the applicant's ability:
  • Official document that endorses a minimum B1 level of the Common European Framework of References for Languages ​​(CEFRL), preferably in English or its equivalent.
  • Copy of the INE (National Electoral Institute)
  • Birth certificate


2. Take the diagnostic admission exam designed by the Academic Board, which will preferably include the following five sections: physical chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical logic, and quantitative logic;
3. Conduct an interview with the Admissions Committee appointed by the Academic Board;
4. Approve the other requirements published in the respective call for applications
