The postgraduate program in Materials Science falls within an interdisciplinary field that studies the properties of solid materials and how these properties are related to a material's composition and structure. In other words, Materials Science involves relating the desired properties and the performance and/or behavior of a material in a given application to the structure of the atoms and phases within that material through its study and characterization. This branch of science emerged from an amalgamation of solid-state physics, metallurgy, and chemistry, among others, since the wide variety of properties that materials possess cannot be understood within the context of a single discipline. One of its main objectives is to understand materials fundamentally, thereby enabling the creation of new materials with the desired properties. Materials Science also involves developing new materials and designing processes for their manufacture. Thus, Materials Science is useful for the implementation of proposed developments in various areas of engineering, such as: computing, advanced materials, lightweight composite materials for faster vehicles, optical fibers for telecommunications, silicon microchips for the information revolution, quantum mechanics, medical technologies such as bone replacement materials, nanotechnology, the automotive industry, aeronautics, fusion and nuclear energy, electronics, aerospace, telecommunications, information processing, and energy conversion.

Admission Requirements
However, specifically, the applicant to the program must:
- Submit interview request .
- To prove, through a degree certificate or diploma, having obtained a bachelor's degree in areas related to Materials Science; or related studies as considered by the Academic Board.
- To prove, through an original official certificate, a minimum average of eighty or its equivalent in your undergraduate studies.
- Consider dedicating yourself full-time to postgraduate activities.
- Submit a letter of intent explaining your reasons for enrolling in the program.
- Submit two letters of recommendation (the letters can be academic, professional, or personal)
- Submit a comprehensive curriculum vitae, with supporting documents; the corresponding documentation will be academically evaluated and weighted with 20% of the overall admission grade.
- Applicants must participate in an interview with an admissions committee for the Master's Program in Materials Science and receive a passing grade at the committee's discretion. This committee will be appointed by the graduate program's academic board. The interview will be academically evaluated and weighted, considering, among other aspects, the applicant's interest in and motivation for research, as well as their level of social commitment to their community. This evaluation will account for 30% of the overall admission score.
- Pass the selection exams, which cover the topics of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English. This aspect will represent 50% of the overall admission score.
