The Master of Science in Chemical Engineering at the University of Guadalajara is one of the most prestigious postgraduate programs in this field in Mexico and even internationally. In the 1990s, it was redesigned to create a world-class program that emphasizes high-level training and innovative, applied research. The research projects developed in this program address cutting-edge topics of regional, national, and international interest. These projects are carried out in collaboration with academic groups and networks with institutions in Mexico and other countries. The quality of the research is reflected in the numerous national and international awards received by the program's faculty and students, and in recent years, in the filing of patent applications. The quality of the faculty in the core academic department (NAB) can be seen in the following data: 13 out of 14 faculty members are members of the National System of Researchers (SNI); this includes two Level III professors, eight Level II professors, and three Level I professors.
Active research areas include studies in Bioengineering and Biopolymers, Control and Optimization of Chemical Processes, Corrosion and Electrochemistry, Colloidal and Surface Engineering, Polymer Synthesis and Characterization, Polymer Blends and Composites, Nanomaterials, Polymer Processing, Polymer Degradation, Polymer Recycling, Rheology, and Mass and Energy Transport Phenomena.
On the other hand, student training and development, as well as the strengthening of the quality and internationalization of postgraduate studies, continue to increase by maintaining academic relationships between program professors and researchers from different National Centers, Institutes, and Universities (e.g., UNAM, Cinvestav, UAEM, UASLP, CIQA) and International Centers, Institutes, and Universities (e.g., Institute of Polymer Science and Technology in Madrid, University of Santiago de Compostela and University of the Basque Country in Spain, Université J. Fourier and University of Grenoble, France; Texas Tech, United States, Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium, Laval University, Canada, University of Bahía Blanca, Argentina, São Carlos Federal University, Brazil; Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany, University of Perugia, and the National Research Council of PISA in Italy). The list of collaborations continues to expand, providing a broad field of action to influence the PRONACES (National Programs for Quality Assurance in Higher Education). Regarding its graduates, the results of the study conducted by the company ACSI showed that Employers hold graduates of the Master of Science in Chemical Engineering program in very high regard. They consider their academic preparation, which allows them to address problems efficiently, to be a strength. Of the graduates from this program in recent years, approximately one-third are pursuing doctoral studies, another third work in educational institutions, and the remainder in industry. 70.6% of them indicate plans to continue their postgraduate studies. Finally, when interviewees were asked about their perception of this postgraduate program at the University of Guadalajara, 58.3% indicated it was “good,” while 41.7% rated it as “excellent,” and 98.1% of the graduates interviewed would recommend the program they completed.

Admission Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or graduation certificate and proof of completion of social service in a career related to Chemical Sciences.
- Provide proof of an average grade of eighty with an original certificate or equivalent document.
- Demonstrate a minimum level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in English or its equivalent.
- To satisfactorily comply with the selection methods designated by the Academic Board in accordance with articles 51 and 52 of the General Postgraduate Regulations.
- Based on the applicants' results and the chosen selection criteria, the Master's Academic Board will issue pre-acceptance letters to applicants who, having met all the aforementioned admission requirements, have obtained the best overall scores for the purpose of admission procedures and, in the case of foreign applicants, also for the procedure of accrediting their immigration status.
- Approve the other requirements published in the respective call for applications.
- If an applicant has met all admission requirements, except for the level of English proficiency, the Academic Board may grant an extension of up to one year to prove said requirement.
