The Doctorate in Educational Systems and Environments is an inter-institutional program, in a mixed tutorial modality with activities mostly at a distance and some face-to-face, as a result of the actions undertaken by the Research and Innovation Network in Educational Systems and Environments ( RIISAE ) to help the consolidation of the Common Space for Distance Higher Education ( ECOESaD ) in Mexico. It is a program for the training of researchers based on carrying out systematic, innovative and original research work.
The thematic field of the program is limited only by the multiplicity of interactions between education and information and communication technologies (ICT), among which are the management of public policies regarding the virtualization of educational systems, the application of ICT in teaching-learning processes, technology-mediated (distance) education, technological appropriation as an educational process and product, the administration of ICT-mediated educational systems and environments, and the transformations in educational systems and environments such as response to the ubiquity of ICTs, which permeate all the tasks of society.Through the doctorate, the aim is to promote the construction of an interdisciplinary and comprehensive vision of the complex of interactions between education and ICT by exposing students to the different disciplinary perspectives around this problem and promoting discussion, work collaborative and interdisciplinary treatment of research problems.
The  Virtual University System, through its Institute for Knowledge Management and Learning in Virtual Environments ( IGCAAV ), is the instance that operates the program at the  University of Guadalajara, in collaboration with the University Centers of the South Coast, of the Norte y de los Valles, based on the research programs of the University, several of which are carried out within the  RIISAE   and with the support of the  ECOESAD infrastructure.
