In the Bachelor of Science in Chemical Technology program, you learn to understand the chemistry behind the substances and reactions that shape our everyday lives. You learn to think like a chemist in the laboratory, but you also learn to work like an engineer and move chemistry into reality, where you use it to solve concrete problems.

Imagine that your shampoo cleans your hair without leaving microplastics in our aquatic environment. That you refuel your car with fuel made from plants, waste or algae instead of oil. That plastic does not end up as waste, but gets a new life – over and over again. Or that we can pull CO₂ out of the air and transform it into new resources instead of letting it destroy our climate. These are examples of some of the visions and ideas that you as a chemical engineer can help to realize.

In other words, you will receive a practical education that opens up a varied and meaningful student life and a future with many opportunities, because society needs your knowledge.

During the first semesters, you will gain a solid foundation in mathematics, physics and chemistry – both organic, inorganic and analytical. In addition, you will have a number of engineering courses, where you will learn, for example, how to design a chemical plant, control a process or work with programming and digital tools for data analysis.

As a chemical engineer, it is important that you can translate chemical knowledge into solutions that work in a reality full of people with different needs and concerns about, among other things, the environment, climate and economy. A skilled chemical engineer not only has a handle on theory, but can also collaborate, understand and critically approach technology, think creatively and see opportunities where others see limitations.

You have the opportunity to tailor your education to your interests through elective courses and project work with business cases. In this way, you build a competency profile and professionalism that helps give you a career advantage as a recent graduate.

The Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Technology program includes a six-month engineering internship, which may be paid. The university will help you find an internship that matches your wishes and interests.

After 3½ years, you are ready to work professionally as an engineer. You can also apply to continue your studies as a Master of Engineering (+2 years) if you have chosen certain courses during your education.
