Are you interested in the interaction between people, culture and technology? Do you dream of designing the digital technologies of the future? And do you become curious when you come across words like interaction design, aesthetic programming, user experiences and digital culture? Then Digital Design is the education for you.

From idea to product
Our everyday lives are full of digital technologies that we use in all sorts of contexts and at all times of the day. Yet few people think about how much design work goes into the scan-it-yourself app they use for shopping or the watch they wear for training. In the bachelor's degree program in Digital Design, you learn to understand digital technologies from idea to finished product, and you are taught everything from programming and interfaces to aesthetics, ethics and culture – always with the user at the center.

You will work with a variety of digital technologies, including apps, websites, censors and visualization, and you will gain an in-depth understanding of how digital technologies influence and are influenced by culture and society. In addition, you will learn to translate your own ideas into reality, as well as to execute, analyze and evaluate your own and others' design processes and finished products.

At the intersection of users, aesthetics and technology
Digital design is an interdisciplinary study that provides you with basic analytical and practical skills in programming and design of digital technologies, as well as extensive knowledge of user experiences, user involvement in design processes, aesthetics and culture. The education is built around three main areas.
  • User-centered design
You will learn that well-functioning digital technologies are always created based on an understanding of users' needs, requirements and behavioral patterns, and you will become an expert in using co-design, interaction design, interviews, questionnaires and workshops to find out what works for users.
  • Aesthetic Criticism and Analysis
You learn to be critical of digital technologies, and you can spot when a digital technology does not work as intended. You use your humanistic skills to analyze and evaluate digital designs with consideration for democracy, ethics, society and the environment.
  • Understanding and using technology
You will gain basic knowledge of the technical work behind digital technologies, including programming, aesthetic programming, interaction technology and data analysis, and you will learn to program simple digital technologies.

Career opportunities
With a degree in Digital Design, you can work with digital product and service development. This can be in areas such as user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, concept development, interaction design, digital communication and teaching.

Graduates in Digital Design are often employed in digital or creative agencies that create and deliver digital technologies and solutions to other companies. Others get jobs in the public sector or at a private company, where they work on developing and improving the company's digital profile, products and services. However, your job opportunities depend on which electives and possible master's degree you choose.
