What is Computer Science?
Computer science is about understanding and working with data and information using computers. It involves everything from writing code to solve problems, analyzing data to gain insights and developing new technologies. It's like learning the language that computers understand so we can collaborate with them to solve problems and create new things.
At the Computer Science studio, you learn to design, program and ensure the correctness of software from scratch. You will be able to program in a number of different programming languages, to handle large amounts of data and to process data with artificial intelligence and visual methods. You also learn methods to avoid cyber attacks – all in order to be able to develop user-friendly, error-free and secure IT solutions.
A central part of computer science is modeling and solving complex problems efficiently. Relevant mathematical methods play a central role in several of the courses on the degree, as you must use the methods to develop and understand algorithms and to investigate the security and efficiency of IT systems.
Why study Computer Science?
The computer science program enables you to think creatively, analytically and critically. You learn to break down large problems into smaller, manageable parts, and then apply logical and creative thinking to solve them.
Computer science is the IT education that gives you the most solid foundation, regardless of whether you want to work in the IT industry or with research and teaching. As a computer scientist, you can have a big influence on digital development both nationally and internationally. You gain an understanding of how digital solutions benefit and influence both society and the individual users. IT specialists are in demand in all industries, and you can, for example, work in areas such as App development, cloud development, IT security, digital banking systems, health technology, climate and energy technology, public administration or as an independent entrepreneur.
At the Department of Computer Science, you will be taught by internationally leading researchers. The institute is ranked as one of the 100 best in the world, and our researchers have invented many of the computer science methods and theories that are used throughout the world today.
Programming experience is not a requirement to start. We ensure that you learn this central discipline from scratch, regardless of your starting point.
If you think it sounds exciting to help shape the future, then this is where you belong! We will probably teach you everything you need within algorithms, machine learning, big data, cyber security, artificial intelligence and software development. Read less
