The Bachelor's degree in Dramaturgy is the study of performing arts in all forms and manifestations: theater, dance, performance and theatrical events that are staged for an audience. You study the expression and role of performing arts in changing cultural contexts from antiquity to today's art scenes. From classic drama texts and historical sources, to current theatrical events in institutional and avant-garde theater, activism and performance, to entertainment formats in old and new media. The study deals with the societal role of performing arts, with its cultural and political conditions, with how dramaturgical tools can be used pedagogically, and how performing arts work as an aesthetic sensation.

Content of the training
In the Bachelor's degree in Dramaturgy, you work with theatre history, analyse scripts and performances, and build insight into different dramaturgies, theatre theories, cultural policy and humanistic research. You will also test and reflect on different acting techniques, instructional methods and approaches to production dramaturgy, and you will organise theatre processes together with your fellow students. You will also be trained in analysing critically and creatively, facilitating and creating coherence in complex processes and tasks, and in communicating theatre forms and practices both orally, in writing and as reflected theatre practice.

Everyday life at Dramaturgy
The teaching in the Bachelor's degree programme in Dramaturgy is based on lectures, group teaching and project work, where you give presentations, participate in discussions and work with your study group. It is a theoretical education, but the theory is put into play and tested in practice in the theatre halls at Kasernen at Aarhus University. You must be prepared for a large amount of independent theoretical reading and group-based teaching preparation as well as work with exercises and other study activities. During the course of the programme, you will go to the theatre and to dance and performance performances with your fellow students, and there will be excursions to performing arts centres around the country.

Career opportunities
The study provides the basic qualifications needed to function as a critical and creative dramaturg, theatre educator or project worker in the arts and culture industry.

With a bachelor's degree in Dramaturgy, you can continue your studies on a number of master's degrees. For example, the master's degree in Dramaturgy, which can give you job opportunities as a dramaturge in the theater world or in media companies within radio, TV, film and games. You can also work as a drama teacher, for example at high schools or college level, or you can work in administration, PR and project management in cultural institutions and in cultural projects.

In combination with other subjects, several graduates also find employment in the private sector, e.g. within the tourism industry, the advertising industry, cultural journalism, and in various forms of creative industries, process management and consulting.
