The Bachelor's degree programme in Classical Archaeology is the study of the ancient cultures of the Mediterranean region, including Greece and the Greek colonies, the Hellenistic kingdoms, as well as Italy and the provinces of the Roman Empire. The study focuses on the period from approximately 1000 BCE to approximately 500 CE. The starting point is the material cultural heritage of antiquity in the form of, for example, architectural remains, landscapes and archaeological finds. In addition, ancient Greek and Latin texts are included to shed light on social and political conditions.

The study
Through studies of material remains and written source material, you learn to analyze and understand the ancient Greco-Roman cultures and their significance for later periods. The subject uses archaeological, historical, cultural historical and art historical methods and theories. The study gives you a critical awareness of the historical cultures of antiquity, and you acquire skills in, for example, data collection, data analysis and professional communication.

An international education
The Bachelor's degree in Classical Archaeology is highly internationally oriented. In the study, you will primarily deal with the archaeology of the Mediterranean region and will also study texts in Latin and Ancient Greek. You will also have the opportunity to spend a semester at a university abroad and participate in fieldwork in different countries.

Career opportunities
The Bachelor's degree in Classical Archaeology provides access to a number of Master's degrees, such as the Master's degree in Archaeology, which is a direct extension of the Bachelor's degree. It can lead to a PhD or give you job opportunities in museums, on national and international research projects, and within communication and administration in both the public and private sectors.
