In the Work-Integrated Master’s degree in Biology at Aarhus University, you study part-time while working part-time in a company or organisation. This lets you apply biological theories and methods directly in practice, and after four years, you graduate with both strong work experience and a high-quality master’s degree.

Biology is a broad discipline spanning everything from molecules to ecosystems. The programme builds on your bachelor’s background and develops your skills in experimental work, field methods, data analysis, and scientific reasoning. You tailor your studies through courses across three main areas:

  • Ecophysiology
  • Biodiversity and Evolution
  • Ecology

As a Biology student, you will have rich opportunities for fieldwork and hands-on research—whether at Danish field stations, in the Arctic, or on the research vessel Aurora. You learn in a collaborative and informal research environment and can contribute to ongoing projects within the department’s active academic community.

Career

Graduates from the work-integrated MSc in Biology combine academic depth with hands-on industry experience. Many students are offered full-time employment at their workplace after graduation, while others go on to research careers or PhD studies.

You will be qualified for roles within research and development, environmental management, consultancy, biotechnology, fisheries, agriculture, conservation, and science communication. Career opportunities exist in both public and private organisations in Denmark and internationally, and many graduates choose to continue into PhD programmes.
