The MA in English at Aarhus University offers advanced study of the language, literature, culture, and history of the English-speaking world. Students engage critically with topics in English linguistics, literary studies, and cultural analysis, developing expertise in areas such as global Englishes, media, identity politics, and transnational narratives. The programme balances theory with applied perspectives, encouraging students to analyse texts, cultural artefacts, and linguistic patterns in relation to broader historical and societal developments. 


Elective options and interdisciplinary approaches allow students to tailor their studies to individual interests in storytelling, adaptation, sociolinguistics, or cultural heritage.  


You will be trained in effective written and verbal English communication through a variety of exam forms, ranging from writing for popular magazines to academic research papers to an oral exam. You will be able to convey information and ideas clearly and vividly, both verbally and in writing, and to plan and carry out large complex projects. 


Graduates are equipped to analyse complex cultural issues and contribute to creative, educational, and professional fields across sectors. 


Career: 


Graduates work in education, publishing, communication, cultural institutions, or international organisations, applying advanced English-language proficiency and cultural insight in roles requiring analytical, communicative, and research competencies.
