The Bachelor's degree in Classical Philology is the study of the Greek and Latin languages, Greco-Roman literature, and classical culture and intellectual history. In Classical Philology, you study classical Greek and/or Latin literature in the original language, and you examine linguistic, literary, historical, cultural-historical, and philosophical issues. You also study the influence of classical culture on our modern world.  

Everyday life at Classical Philology
The teaching on the Bachelor's degree programme in Classical Philology is based on lectures and group teaching, where you give presentations, participate in discussions and work with your study group. Reading takes up a lot of the programme, and you will solve grammatical problems and immerse yourself in difficult and intricate texts from a distant era. You can choose to study both Greek and Latin, or you can specialise in either Greek or Latin and combine the programme with another subject at the university.  

The ancient world
In Classical Philology you will come across such diverse subject areas as literary theory, textual criticism, rhetoric, philosophy, religion and archaeology. You will read works from all over Greco-Roman antiquity, but will primarily focus on the classical periods. You will study Greek works by, among others, Homer, Herodotus and Plato and Roman literature by Catullus, Cicero and Caesar.  
Career opportunities
Once you have completed your bachelor's degree in Classical Philology, you have the opportunity to study a number of master's degrees. For example, the master's degree in Classical Philology, which can give you job opportunities at high schools, universities, research libraries and cultural institutions.

Specific admission requirements
You must have passed the following specific admission requirements:
  • Danish A
  • English B
  • History B or History of Ideas B or Contemporary History B
  • Greek A or propaedeutic teaching after admission
  • Latin A or propaedeutic education after admission

If you have not passed Greek A or Latin A, you must follow propaedeutic instruction in the program. It is therefore not a prerequisite that you have taken Greek A or Latin A before starting the program.

If you are missing one or more subject levels, you have the opportunity to supplement.
