The Bachelor's degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies is about language, religion, history, culture, politics and society in the Arab world. You will gain an understanding of everyday Arab life, and you will learn about Islam in and outside the Arab world. In Arabic and Islamic Studies, you will learn to read, speak and write modern standard Arabic. You will become an expert in the Arab world, and you will learn to build bridges between Denmark and the Arab world in many areas.  

The language Modern Standard Arabic is the common language of the Arab world. You will read original texts such as newspaper articles and passages from the Quran. You will also become familiar with selected Arabic dialects used in everyday communication. The study of the Arabic language constitutes approximately half of the study time.  

Daily life at Arabic and Islamic Studies The teaching in the Bachelor's degree programme in Arabic and Islamic Studies is primarily based on class hours and work in your study group. You will give presentations and participate in discussions when studying Islam and the history of the Arab world. Please note that a large part of the teaching will be in English, just as a large part of the curriculum will also be in English.  

Discover the Arab world Most bachelor's students go on a study abroad in the 4th semester. You can choose between selected Arabic dialects, use the language you have already learned, and you also gain first-hand knowledge of the Arab world. The study abroad in an Arabic-speaking country is a valuable part of the education. It is of course also possible to stay in Denmark and receive teaching from here.  

Career opportunities With a bachelor's degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies, you can continue your studies in a number of master's degree programs. This can give you job opportunities in both Danish and international companies that have contact with the Arabic-speaking market. You can also work in areas such as cross-cultural communication, integration work and development work.

Entrance exam You must have passed an  entrance exam.
Specific admission requirements You must have passed the following specific admission requirements:
  • Danish A
  • English B
  • History B or History of Ideas B or Contemporary History B
  • Arabic A or propaedeutic teaching after admission
If you have not passed Arabic A, you must follow propaedeutic teaching in the program. It is therefore not a prerequisite that you have taken Arabic A before starting the program.
If you are missing one or more subject levels, you have the opportunity to supplement.

If you do not meet the grade requirement in quota 1, you must apply for admission to quota 2 no later than March 15 at 12 noon. Otherwise, you will not be able to be admitted.
