Japan fascinates people all over the world. As a student of Japanese Studies, you learn to understand current issues through various subjects – especially history, sociology and political science. Among other things, you study political periods and delve into Japan's relations with neighboring countries Korea and China. In addition to historical and social science perspectives, the program also focuses on Japan in a global context.
At Japan Studies you will learn to speak and write Japanese. The language plays an important role in the teaching and is therefore a central part of the education. The language teaching is often carried out by Japanese people, and it is based on dialogue, so that you can practice the Japanese language in everyday life. You will read texts in Japanese, and you will also work with grammar and translation.
A semester in Japan
The program usually includes the opportunity to spend a semester studying at a university in Japan, so you can experience and study the country from the inside. Here you can hone your Japanese language skills and get to know Japanese society better. You will gain a thorough understanding of modern Japan, experience the unique Japanese culture up close, and build an understanding of Japanese society, so you can build bridges between Japan and Denmark. At the same time, it is a unique opportunity to build a network and make new international friends.

If you have not passed Japanese A, you must take propaedeutic classes during the program. It is therefore not a prerequisite that you have passed Japanese A before starting the program.
If you are missing one or more subject levels, you have the opportunity to supplement.
You must have passed an entrance exam.

You must have passed the following specific admission requirements:
- Danish A
- English B
- History B or History of Ideas B or Contemporary History B
- Japanese A or propaedeutic teaching after admission
If you have not passed Japanese A, you must take propaedeutic classes during the program. It is therefore not a prerequisite that you have passed Japanese A before starting the program.
