Department of Botany is one of the scientific departments at the faculty of Sciences, Alasmarya University. It was established in 2015. The program has 138 teaching units which are divided over 50 courses. Students are required to complete at least 8 semesters to graduate. 19 students graduated from this program up to this year over 7 graduation batches.

About the Program

The department aims to achieve the college’s vision, providing distinguished academic education in the field of botany. It also goals to provide the local community with qualified specialists in the working field and in the scientific research areas who are able to compete in the labor market by paying attention to studying everything related to the world of plants from an academic and applied perspective.

            Department of Botany looks forward steadily to afford the graduate students with the highest level of education. Looking for more competitive goals, it aims to prepare qualified scientific cadres who could successfully carry on and develop the scientific research works. the goal end of such competitive aims is considerably reflecting the real Sincere determination of our department in providing a contributing participation to the community service, creating a spirit of creativity and creating innovation among students.

The Goals of the Program

The department aims to achieve the following goals:

• Meeting Libya’s needs for qualified national cadres in the field of botany.
• Providing scientific and technical services in various public fields.
• Expanding scientific studies related to botany to raise the level of scientific education and follow up on the latest scientific studies that serve society.
• Encouraging teaching staffs and student to conduct research and participate in scientific conferences and seminars.
• Strengthening scientific and service communication relations with various bodies and institutions in society with the aim of exchanging scientific expertise.
• Preserving the environment by studying pollutants and their effect on living organisms and means of combating pollution.

An Overview of the future Professionals (Employments)

providing scope and space to for the purpose of enhancing the educational and scientific quality in the research field is the most concerning area where graduate students can probably apply for. Graduates from this program can choose the field of employment, including, but not limited to, the field of laboratories, the field of teaching, and the field of scientific research. They can work in institutes that concern with research development in the scientific aspect.

            In addition, teaching in public and private schools through the Ministry of Education is another possible field of work which graduate students can apply for. This might include working in universities and colleges as either teaching staff or laboratory workers. More possibly, for the needs of integrating and developing research practices in education, graduate students from Department of Botany are allowed to work at the Scientific research centers too.
