The Doctorate in “Science and Technology of Colloids and Interfaces” is a program of the University of Vigo, attached to the Faculty of Chemistry. This doctoral program is a continuation of the one taught until 2012 and which obtained the Mention of Excellence in 2010. The doctoral program is carried out in collaboration with the cooperative research center in Biomaterials (CIC biomaGUNE) of San Sebastian. The purpose of this collaboration is to deepen the knowledge of some aspects of nanoscience in which researchers from Uvigo and biomagune carry out complementary research. The science of Colloids and Interfaces plays a key role in sectors as varied as food, pharmacy, cosmetics, new materials, nanotechnology, etc. These sectors are among the most active in terms of developing technological innovation projects, and therefore, among those with a greater capacity to absorb doctors in the near future. Supramolecular Chemistry, Nanoscience, and the control of properties through molecular design are expressions that appear more and more frequently in texts related to technology. A large part of the optical, electrical, or mechanical properties of modern materials depend on the possibilities of designing nanostructures of pure compounds and/or mixtures. The use of supramolecular structures is increasingly common in the pharmaceutical industry, catalysts, etc. Something similar can be said regarding the design of chemical and biological sensors, and the viability of technologies such as nanoelectronics.

Admission Requirements

Selection criteria

Students must take a master's degree at the same level and branch of knowledge. In the case of being in possession of the Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA) obtained in accordance with the provisions of RD 778/98 or reaching Research Sufficiency as regulated by RD 185/85, they must take it in related Doctoral programs.

In addition, students must have a B1 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) knowledge level or another officially recognized equivalent.

The Academic Committee of the Doctorate will carry out an evaluation of the previous studies of the students to verify that these are valid for the admission in the doctorate.

In the event that there are more applicants than vacancies and it is necessary to make a selection, an assessment of the CVs of the applicants will be made to prioritize the applications, taking into account the following criteria and their weighting:

  1. Grade / degree transcript (50%)
  2. Master's/DEA's academic record (30%)
  3. Accredited research experience through publications in JCR journals (20%)
