The purpose of the Doctoral Program in Advanced Biotechnology is to train research professionals in different fields of biotechnology research and to constitute a competitive, homogeneous, well-structured and quality offer of doctoral studies. The aim is to prepare students to be able to complete a theoretical, methodological and research training in the multidisciplinary field of Biotechnology, which materializes in the elaboration and public defense of a complex, original and innovative Doctoral Thesis. The Interuniversity Academic Committee of the doctoral program (CAPD) will be responsible for teaching coordination between the participating universities to achieve the proposed goal. Students must have a related degree and master's degree, so that their doctoral training will be based on specialized seminars, participation in scientific conferences and research stays abroad, as well as in an intense research training aimed at the Doctoral Thesis. In addition to the research groups assigned to the doctoral program, Theses may be carried out in prestigious groups external to UVIGO and the UDC or in associated Research Centers, with the prior authorization of the Academic Committee.

Selection criteria

Applicants will be required, as a prerequisite, to pass a test (equivalent to or higher than knowledge level B1 of the CEFRCL), which will be carried out by the CAPD, on understanding scientific-technical English.

Each application will be evaluated based on the following information, which must accompany the application for admission:

  1. Curriculum vitae of the applicant, taking into account the degree of access and their previous training (85%).
  2. Letter with a declaration of interests about the doctoral program where the student's motivations for choosing this doctoral program and the line(s) of research of interest must be stated if admitted. Possible reference reports from their home institutions will be valued (15%)
  3. Optionally, one (or several) personal interviews will be held (in person and/or via email). The objective of the interviews is to assess the characteristics of the applicant in terms of the admission profile, as well as the adaptation of their interests to the lines of research of the Groups attached to the doctoral program. They will be necessary in those cases in which the documentation provided raises doubts in any of the alleged merits or in the event of a tie between several candidates.

In any case, the special educational needs of students derived from disabilities will be taken into account.
