The Doctoral Program in Water, Sustainability, and Development is framed as one of the strategic guidelines of the Water Campus (Agreement of the Galician Government Council of November 21, 2013, authorizing the start of the specialization process of the University of Vigo, of the Water Campus at the Ourense Campus, and Collaboration Protocol between the Galician Government and the University of Vigo for the implementation and development of the Strategic Plan, of March 14, 2014). The overall objective is to develop a program that takes into account the six areas of specialization of the Water Campus—Water Management, Social and Educational Innovation, Environment, ICT, Tourism and Cultural Heritage, and Food— grouped into three thematic blocks (Water, Sustainability, and Development), with the multidisciplinary collaboration of all the Schools and Faculties that bring together the know-how developed on the Campus. This synergy aims to increase the number of highly qualified PhDs, the quality of scientific publications, and specialized postgraduate activity. It also presents an opportunity to overcome the Campus's weaknesses and enhance its strengths. It is conceived as a program capable of offering advanced, high-quality training in subjects relevant to the Auga Campus, enabling it to establish itself as a leader within the Galicia-Northern Portugal Euroregion.
