Degree in Biomedical Engineering is a new line of engineering focused on the application of the principles, techniques and methods of engineering to the field of medicine. It is, therefore, a relatively new interdisciplinary degree in which the techniques of industrial engineering (mechanical engineering, electronic and automatic engineering, chemical engineering, organisational engineering...), computer engineering and telecommunications engineering are applied to the analysis and resolution of problems related to medicine in the 21st century.

Professional activities:

  • Manufacture, commercialisation and evaluation of medical devices and equipment (for prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation), special materials, devices for implants, prostheses and robotic systems for biomedical applications.
  • Strategies related to the application and commissioning of biomedical materials and systems.
  • Clinical engineering services in public and private health centres, in the world of sport and leisure.
  • Telemedicine and telematics applications in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
  • Medical informatics, such as computer programmes and health information systems for the treatment of biomedical and bioimaging data.
  • Biotechnology and cellular design.
  • Pharmaceutical industry and food industry, in order to analyse and quantify the interaction between drugs/substances and biological parameters.
  • Manufacturing industry in general: ergonomics of products and processes and impact of technologies on human health.
