The Master's degree in Mining Engineering qualifies for the regulated profession of mining engineer. It is a unique qualification in the Galician university system.

We train students to acquire the necessary skills and abilities in relation to the calculation, simulation, design, management, analysis and technical direction of technological processes linked to the production, transformation, storage, transport and use of mineral raw materials and energy resources; all this within a framework of sustainability. It is conceived as a training project with a strong practical orientation. Proof of this is the inclusion in the curriculum of the subject External Practices (of a mandatory nature), the carrying out of numerous visits to technological facilities and processes and the carrying out of practical training activities.

In this degree we train highly qualified professionals to deal with the resolution of complex problems in the fields of mining engineering. It is worth highlighting the Numerical Simulation in Engineering Module in the curriculum, whose objective is to train students in the use of tools to deal with the simulation of mining engineering processes.

The master's degree brings to Galicia an essential, unique, singular and exclusive academic and professional specialization from public education. This master's degree has the EUR-ACE quality seal, an international recognition that accredits the high quality of engineering degrees, granted by the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education.

Admission Requirements

Access and admission

Regarding the admission procedure, this will be applied to students who meet the requirements for access to the degree. Specifically, four groups are identified:

  • Group A
  • Students in possession of any of the following qualifications:
  • Degree in Energy and Mining Resources Engineering from the University of Vigo
  • Degree in Energy Engineering from the University of Vigo.
  • Group B
  • Students in possession of a university degree linked to the exercise of the regulated profession of mining engineer (university graduate or mining engineer of different specialties issued by another university in the SUE).
  • Group C
  • Students with a university degree not linked to the practice of the profession of mining engineer who meet the access requirements established in point 4.2.2 of Order CIN/310/2009.
  • Group D
  • Foreign students.

It is proposed to reserve a quota of places for each group, as follows:

  • Group A: 70% of the places offered (14 places)
  • Group B: 10% of the places offered (2 places)
  • Group C: 10% of the places offered (2 places)
  • Group D: 10% of the places offered (2 places)

If the quota for any of the groups is not reached, it may be filled by students from other groups. Priority within each group will be based on the average grades of the academic record.

Taking into account the heterogeneity in the previous academic training of access groups B, C and D, the master's academic committee will establish, based on the applicant's academic curriculum, the academic curriculum of the Advanced Training Module in Technologies based on the accredited previous training.

In the case of students in groups C and D who meet the access requirements, the master's academic committee will establish, based on the academic training provided, the set of credits that the student must take as complementary training, if applicable, so that the maximum number of complementary training credits to be taken is 24 ECTS.
