Background to the program and subject area:

Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Jordan! The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers programs at both the undergraduate and graduate level that prepare students for future challenges and opportunities. Since its establishment in 1978, more than 2800 mechanical engineers have graduated.

Our programs include a BSc in Mechanical Engineering (an ABET accredited undergraduate program), an MSc in Mechanical Engineering and an MSc in Renewable Energy

Our graduates, both BSc and MSc, are employed inside Jordan and abroad, mostly in the Gulf States and to a lesser extent in Europe and North America. Many of them finished their post graduate studies and were appointed in well recognized research and academic institutions worldwide.

Our faculty includes renowned scholars in areas of mechanics and materials, thermo-fluids, robotics, and dynamic controls. Furthermore, we now integrate Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision into the design process. We create Human-Machine interface and work in Bio-Mechanics research through senior design projects and departmental research.

Our programs prepare students through series of focused classes in the areas of design, mechanics and materials, and thermal and fluid systems, as well as provide them opportunities to participate in state-of-the art, funded research.

The ME programs prepare students for a wealth of opportunities in virtually all industries including aerospace, automotive, biomedical, energy (wind/solar/petrochemical), heating and cooling systems, machinery, materials, robotics, structures, and many more.

Our goal is to provide the highest quality of education and interdisciplinary research in mechanical engineering for the engineers of our future.

Vision statements of the program:

To become a globally recognized program for its excellence in mechanical engineering education, research, innovation, and outreach.

Mission statements of the program:

To provide a comprehensive mechanical engineering education that enables graduates to assume active roles in proper engineering practice under various professional environments and constraints, advance the mechanical engineering discipline through partnership with local and international industries and professional and academic engineering institutions, and improve the quality of life of mankind through teaching, scientific research, innovation and entrepreneurial activities, and outreach programs.

Program Educational Objectives:

The following educational objectives of the BSc program in Mechanical Engineering  were developed based on the missions of the University, the School of Engineering, and the Department, and input from representatives from the program constituencies. They were discussed and modified by the Industrial Advisory Board in its second meeting on the 9th of May 2021. The final approved PEOs are:

1. Succeed in applying effective solutions of mechanical and related engineering problems that integrate contemporary practices and modern tools under various engineering constraints and standards.

2. Effectively assume management and leadership roles, professionally and ethically, instill collegiality and multidisciplinary teamwork in work environment.

3. Engage in continuous professional development and/or higher education, entrepreneurial activities, and community service.
