Background to the program and subject area:

 

The Department of Sociology is one of the oldest departments in the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. It was established in 1962, the year in which the University of Jordan was established. The Arabic language is the medium of teaching in this department. When the department was established, the number of students who joined the department was modest. But this number has increased remarkably in the latest years. The number of the undergraduate students in the department in 2007/2008 is around 600, and the postgraduate number is 47, and the number of staff members is over thirteen, ten of whom are Full Professors and the rest are Associate Professors.

An outstanding academic department keeping abreast of developments in the fields of knowledge at national regional and international level.


The scholarships awarded to student by the university certainly facilitated and created a chance for success.


The current mission requires the use of many instruments to re-evaluate the study of history and to employ modern technology and oral history to be able to understand the past, connect with the present and predict the future objectively.

Program Aims:

 

1. Introducing developed academic programs that meet the scientific and practical needs of the specialization and the community, in line with local, Arab and international academic standards.


2. The contribution of faculty members to the scientific and research enrichment of local, Arab and international issues and developments.


3. Preparing students and graduates who are qualified scientifically, research and practically to achieve conscious understanding and interpretation of social phenomena, social problems, social change and developments at the national and international levels.


4. Providing national institutions with qualified social researchers who are able to achieve the goals of knowledge and research institutions.


5. Directing graduate students (Masters, PhD) to study issues, phenomena and social problems related to the cultural, economic, political and developmental reality of Jordanian society and Arab society.


6. Directing and employing student energies for innovation and leadership in community service.​

First: General Terms and Conditions:

1. The plan complies with the current graduate program guidelines. 2. Eligible specializations:

-First priority: Bachelor's degree in Sociology.

-Second priority: Social work/social service, criminology, psychology, social demography, social anthropology

Required Scores of English Language Tests

Please note that applicants who have graduated from an English-speaking country are exempt from the English exam requirement.

Required Documents:

After checking your eligibility for the program, your electronic application at the next step must include the following documents compiled into a single PDF file (with a size of less than 6 MB):


1.  A copy of the General Secondary Certificate (high school or Tawjihi).

2.  A copy of the bachelor's degree certificate is required for master's students. For doctoral students, a copy of the master's degree certificate with a rating of at least 'Good' is required.

3.  Transcripts for all academic years of the bachelor's degree for master's students, and transcripts for all academic years of both the bachelor's and master's degree for doctoral students.

4. The grading system used by the student's university (for graduates of non-Jordanian universities).

5. A personal photograph.

6.  A copy of the passport.
