The Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension traces its origins back to 1973, when it was founded with a mission to strengthen Jordan's agricultural sector through teaching, research, and outreach. In its formative years, the department played a central role in advancing agricultural knowledge and supporting rural communities through extension services and applied economic research. The introduction of the MSc program in the 1985-1986 academic year marked a significant milestone, signaling the department's growing academic maturity and its commitment to developing future leaders in the agricultural sciences.
By 1998, as part of a wider restructuring within the Faculty of Agriculture, the department broadened its academic vision and officially became the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management. This change reflected not only an expansion in scope but also the department's increasing relevance to the evolving needs of the agrifood sector. With eight dedicated academic staff members, the department steadily built a reputation for excellence in agricultural economics, agribusiness management, and rural development. It also became a key provider of service courses, including principles of economics, statistics, extension, and management, supporting students across multiple departments and disciplines. At the same time, the department has played a vital role in preparing both BSc and MSc graduates to engage actively in private sector agribusiness, as well as in the planning and implementation of public development programs. Today, the department stands as an essential academic institution committed to advancing agricultural and economic development, and to equipping the next generation of professionals with the expertise needed to navigate the challenges of an increasingly complex agri food landscape.

To achieve a distinguished position in the fields of education, research, and agricultural extension, and to maintain a leading position in the development of the agricultural business sector at the local, regional, and international levels.
Mission
To provide students with the economic, administrative and analytical knowledge and skills necessary to make sound decisions in the areas of optimal allocation of natural resources and their uses in the agricultural business sector and the distribution of agricultural products to contribute to sustainable development, the development of rural communities and the preservation of the environment.
Program Educational Objectives (PEO)
The Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management program aims that, within the first five years after graduation, graduates will be able to:
Work professionally, at the local and international levels, in various fields of agricultural economics.
Conduct scientific research to address problems related to agricultural economics and agribusiness management.
Provide extension services to farmers and ranchers to improve the economic efficiency of production.
Collaborate with governmental and private sector institutions to help solve problems in the agricultural business sector across its various fields.
Participate in the development of regulations and roles related to food security, economic development, and rural development.

Admission Requirements
Required documents:
To start the admission process, you first need:
1. A copy of the passport.
2. For international students who hold a Jordanian high school certificate (i.e. Tawjehi), you need to provide your Transcript certified from the Jordanian Ministry of Education. 2.1 For International students with a Saudi certificate, you need to get an equivalency from the Ministry of Education in Jordan ( after 2016).
2.2 For international students holding Arabic certificates, you need to have your certificate certified by the Ministry of Education in Jordan.
3.2. For international students holding an international certificate from Jordan (e.g. I.B., SAT, I.G.C.E, etc..), you need to start the equivalency process at the Jordanian Ministry of education (https://apps.moe.gov.jo/apps/certificate/).
4.2. For international students holding an international certificate (e.g. I.B., SAT, I.G.C.E., etc..), from Arab countries, you need to start the equivalency process at the Jordanian Ministry of education (https://apps.moe.gov.jo/apps/certificate/) or at the Ministry of education in your country showing the average and the branch.
5.2. For international students holding an international certificate (e.g. I.B., SAT, I.G.C.E., etc..), from non-Arab countries, you need to start the equivalency process at the Jordanian Ministry of education (https://apps.moe.gov.jo/apps/certificate/).
(Important note: If a student is unable to provide the university with the equivalency of the certificate before arriving to Jordan, they can do this process during the first semester).
