​An overview of the program and its main subjects:

The PhD program in Islamic theology allows the student to delve deeply into the study of Islamic doctrines, in addition to introducing him/her to the religious and intellectual issues around the world in order to better understand the other side and open the horizons of communication, dialogue and coexistence between nations.

Program vision:

Qualifying graduates specialized in Islamic Theology and well-versed in the fields necessary for understanding it such as logic and philosophy.​

Program mission:

Creating a safe environment that understands the theological and religious situation in the Islamic world and all over the world in order to open the horizons of cooperation and dialogue with the other.

Program goals:

  1. Enriching the correct and in-depth understanding of issues of Islamic theology within the framework of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah.
  2. Qualifying a number of researchers who contribute to promoting moderation in the Islamic world.
  3. Qualifying specialists who understand the theological situation of Islamic sects according to the current intellectual context in order to deal with them in a proper way.
  4. Promoting the appropriate concepts for understanding other religions and ways of dialogue and coexistence with them.
  5. Supplementing the needs of the University of Jordan and other Jordanian universities with faculty members in this field alongside the Arab and Islamic countries in light of the increased demand for them and achieving the desire of graduates in this specialization from the University of Jordan because of its reputation and leading position in the Arab, Islamic and international community.

Students are admitted to the program after they pass the higher secondary exam (Tawjihi) held by the Ministry of Education and according to the grade requirements set by the Higher Education Council/ Unified Acceptance Coordination Unit, and this is in accordance with the Bylaws and Regulations of the University of Jordan in regular and international courses of study

Required Scores of English Language Tests

Please note that applicants who have graduated from an English-speaking country are exempt from the English exam requirement.

Required Documents:

After checking your eligibility for the program, your electronic application at the next step must include the following documents compiled into a single PDF file (with a size of less than 6 MB):


1.  A copy of the General Secondary Certificate (high school or Tawjihi).

2.  A copy of the bachelor's degree certificate is required for master's students. For doctoral students, a copy of the master's degree certificate with a rating of at least 'Good' is required.

3.  Transcripts for all academic years of the bachelor's degree for master's students, and transcripts for all academic years of both the bachelor's and master's degree for doctoral students.

4. The grading system used by the student's university (for graduates of non-Jordanian universities).

5. A personal photograph.

6.  A copy of the passport.
