An overview of the program and its main topics


The specialization aims to equip the student with applied skills in physical and human geography and modern technology skills in remote sensing and geographic information systems.

Program Vision


The Department of Geography strives to be one of the distinguished departments of geography at the global level and to be a major center for learning, and for the department’s graduates to be able to compete successfully with graduates of international universities.


Program message


The Geography Department, through the application of effective teaching strategies, active learning,   and the use of modern geography laboratories, develops students' general skills, such as critical thinking, creative thinking, and effective communication skills. The department also cultivates students' specialized skills in geography and in modern geographic technologies, such as remote sensing and geographic information systems. Furthermore, the department strives to equip its students with specialized geographic knowledge, enabling them to work in diverse fields and pursue graduate studies at the University of Jordan and other prestigious international universities. The department is also committed to fostering noble values ​​in students, particularly the teachings of Islam, patriotism, and belief in Arab unity, and to cultivating positive attitudes, especially in areas such as tolerance, acceptance of differing opinions, and teamwork.  



Program Objectives


First: To provide students with the necessary scientific knowledge in the field of geography:


- The student should be able to:


1- Interpreting the characteristics of spatial distributions


2- Interpreting the processes, interactions, and changes that occur in natural systems during different time periods.


3- Evaluating the reciprocal relationships between humans and the environment


4- Clarifying the diverse geographical models


5- Analyzing the economic, social, political, and cultural processes that influence and are influenced by human activity


Second: Developing students' specialized skills:


- The student should be able to:


1- Applying statistical methods in the study of geographical phenomena


2- Employing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies in studying geographical issues


3- Using cartographic methods, maps, and satellite imagery in studying geographical issues


 


 


Third: Preparing students for work after graduation in multiple fields and/or to pursue postgraduate studies:


 


- The student should be able to:


 


1- Working after graduation in other fields besides teaching, such as working in municipalities, city planning departments, and others


2- The ability to compete after graduation with graduates from other universities


           The ability to complete postgraduate studies


 


 


Fourth: Developing students' general skills and promoting their positive attitudes:


 


- The student should be able to:


 


1- The ability to think critically and creatively


2- The ability to work within a team


3. Practice lifelong learning

Admission Requirements

To enroll at the University of Jordan, you need to meet the minimum required GPA for the General Secondary Education Certificate; The required GPA is 55 %

Required documents: 

To start the admission process, you first need:   ​
1.  A copy of the passport.

2.  For international students who hold a Jordanian high school certificate (i.e. Tawjehi), you need to provide your Transcript certified from the Jordanian Ministry of Education. 2.1 For International students with a Saudi certificate, you need to get an equivalency from the Ministry of Education in Jordan ( after 2016).

2.2 For international students holding Arabic certificates, you need to have your certificate certified by the Ministry of Education in Jordan.

3.2. For international students holding an international certificate from Jordan (e.g. I.B., SAT, I.G.C.E​, etc.​.), you need to start the equivalency process at the Jordanian Ministry of education (https://apps.moe.gov.jo/apps/certificate/).  

4.2. For international students holding an international certificate (e.g. I.B., SAT, I.G.C.E., etc.​.),​​ from Arab countries,  you need to start the equivalency process at the Jordanian  Ministry of education (https://apps.moe.gov.jo/apps/certificate/) or at the Ministry of education in your country showing the average and the branch. 

5.2.  For international students holding an international certificate (e.g. I.B., SAT, I.G.C.E., etc..), from non-Arab countries, you need to start the equivalency process at the Jordanian Ministry of education​ (https://apps.moe.gov.jo/apps/certificate/).

(Important note: If a student is unable to provide the university with the equivalency of the certificate before arriving to Jordan, they can do this process during the first semester).
