The Master of Industrial Engineering/ Design and Manufacturing (Thesis and Non-Thesis Track) is the first master's program in Manufacturing engineering licensed by the Jordanian government and activated at the University of Jordan.

The program accepted the first collection of students in September 1988. Since then the program has been successful and growth in all aspects: more graduates, more research, and more university theses, where it has contributed to a distinct academic reputation for the program.

The program is associated to qualifying students with engineering B.Sc. mainly in the industrial and mechanical and other specializations in engineering in a more advanced perspective of manufacturing, materials, design, automation and control. This program also acquaints the students with the economical aspect of manufacturing. The recent trends in materials and manufacturing is a part of this course in addition to instructing students in proper conduction of the scientific research. The program also illustrates manufacturing systems management perspectives such as planning and logistics of design and manufacturing, product design and quality, advanced manufacturing processes and remote manufacturing, the program provides a technical-based alternative to traditional engineering master programs.

The program aims to introduce students to the basic supports of the managerial roles of manufacturing engineers and designers, analysis of the various functions of technological and engineering organizations, manufacturing techniques, design, materials engineering, and manufacturing and engineering logistics systems that contribute to the formulation and execution of decisions in manufacturing engineering and design, as well as automation, product design and computer aided design and manufacturing in addition to the economic aspects of manufacturing.

The program consists of 33 credit hours. The core courses provide a more comprehensive foundation in traditional and nontraditional manufacturing engineering, engineering design, and computer aided engineering in manufacturing and design, engineering materials systems, decision making and logistics management.

Furthermore, for thesis track, students select a research advisor and area for specialization to conduct a research thesis. The thesis may involve either theoretical or experimental research investigations, or both. The thesis can be of a limited scope but should involve a significant degree of originality. The thesis enables the graduate student to identify, formulate, and solve real-life manufacturing and design engineering problems.

The graduates of the program will have knowledge and professionalism that are comparable to the graduates of the top universities in the world, therefore, the industrial engineering department will strive to include professional instructors with excellent research that will assist the students in acquiring the required knowledge and have their proper place in the society.

Vision:

Aspires to create qualified graduates in the field of manufacturing and design, who have knowledge and professionalism that are competitive to the graduates of the top universities in the world.

 Mission:

To move forward the frontiers of the knowledge of materials, manufacturing and design aspects and elevate the social and living standards of the society.

Program aims:

The program has the following aims

1- Provide up to date information in the field of design and manufacturing

2- Provide both theoretical and practical knowledge in  computer aided design and manufacturing and control

3- Educate students to better design products, select their manufacturing process and plan their production

4-  Develop enough management abilities for students to qualify for top position in local and international companies
