Background to the program and subject area:


   

The Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences, established as part of the College of Rehabilitative Sciences in 2003, is among the first university departments in Jordan to offer Bachelor degree in hearing and Speech Sciences and Master’s degree in speech-language therapy. Our department is among the first on the country level to offer this specialty and our master’s program is the only graduate program at the country and the regional level. The program is designed to provide the students with essential academic knowledge, clinical skills, and reflective practices that enable them compete in the professions of speech pathology and audiology. Upon leaving the University our graduates enter the clinical, teaching, and research fields competently.


 

Vision statements of the program:


Diverse theoretical and clinical opportunities to learn about different communicative disorders are offered by highly qualified PhD and master degree holders who are with wide variety of specialization. The hearing courses and clinics, introduce students to diagnostic and rehabilitative services to children and adults.  The Speech-Language courses and clinics offer experiences related to speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders at all ages.

The department of Speech and Hearing Sciences seeks to provide its students with the highest level of education and practicum in the fields of speech-language pathology and audiology. It targets qualifying students with adequate professional experiences and skills to provide children and adults, with wide range of communication disorders, with assessment, diagnosis, and intervention services among different sites including the university clinic, schools, centers for children with disabilities, and private clinics.


Program Aims:


 The department aims at:



1. Providing course work and clinical experiences reflecting pertinent and current content necessary for personal growth and professional competence in the fields of speech-language pathology and audiology.


2. Developing fundamental understanding of hearing, speech and language development and disorders across the life span.


3. Emphasizing the role and responsibilities of the speech-language pathologist and audiologist.


4. Graduating professionals that value and foster communication and interaction with colleagues for the benefit of optimal service to clients with communication disorders.


5. Involving students in research activities and encouraging application of research evidence into everyday clinical practice.


6. Developing professional and educational collaboration with international institutions through study and research exchange of faculty and students.

Admission Requirements

Students are admitted to the program after they pass the higher secondary exam (Tawjihi) held by the Ministry of Education and according to the grade requirements set by the Higher Education Council/ Unified Acceptance Coordination Unit, and this is in accordance with the Bylaws and Regulations of the University of Jordan in regular and international courses of study


To enroll at the University of Jordan, you need to meet the minimum required GPA for the General Secondary Education Certificate;

The required GPA is 60 %



Required documents:



To start the admission process, you first need:

 


1.  A copy of the passport.



2.  For international students who hold a Jordanian high school certificate (i.e. Tawjehi), you need to provide your Transcript certified from the Jordanian Ministry of Education.

2.1 For International students with a Saudi certificate, you need to get an equivalency from the Ministry of Education in Jordan ( after 2016).



2.2 For international students holding Arabic certificates, you need to have your certificate certified by the Ministry of Education in Jordan.



3.2. For international students holding an international certificate from Jordan (e.g. I.B., SAT, I.G.C.E​, etc.​.), you need to start the equivalency process at the Jordanian Ministry of education (https://apps.moe.gov.jo/apps/certificate/).



4.2. For international students holding an international certificate (e.g. I.B., SAT, I.G.C.E., etc.​.),​​ from Arab countries,  you need to start the equivalency process at the Jordanian  Ministry of education (https://apps.moe.gov.jo/apps/certificate/) or at the Ministry of education in your country showing the average and the branch.



5.2.  For international students holding an international certificate (e.g. I.B., SAT, I.G.C.E., etc..), from non-Arab countries, you need to start the equivalency process at the Jordanian Ministry of education​ (https://apps.moe.gov.jo/apps/certificate/).



(Important note: If a student is unable to provide the university with the equivalency of the certificate before arriving to Jordan, they can do this process during the first semester).
