The programme develops the students' skills in English-Arabic-English translation.‎


In particular, it focuses on:‎


‎1.Theories of translation and methods of research in translation. ‎


‎2.Written translation in the fields of economics, politics, administration and media. ‎


‎3.Legal and literary translation.‎


‎4.Consecutive and simultaneous translation. ‎

The MA in translation programme aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills for a career in ‎translation and interpreting and for other related professions. With its focus on theory and practice, the ‎programme provides students with proper preparation for future research at the PhD level.

Mission Statements of the Program:


The mission of the MA programme in Translation is to offer graduate students rich research ‎environment that allows them to specialize in Translation for the Professions, Literary and Applied ‎Literary Translation, and Community Interpreting.  The programme's aim is to help students further ‎their careers whether in academia or professional fields. ‎


Program Aims:


a-‎  Offering courses which provide breadth and depth in subject-matter within the fields of English ‎literature.‎


b-‎  Maintaining and developing a quality education in translation that enables students to attain the ‎highest level of professional and personal development. ‎


c-‎  Ensuring that students acquire ample understanding of their professional and ethical ‎responsibilities.‎


d-‎  Responding through the graduate programs to the needs of the public and private sectors by ‎equipping students with knowledge, together with the practical and general transferable skills ‎which enable them to play a leading and effective role as professional English teachers, ‎translators, press and media personnel, tour guides, government civil servants, private sector ‎employees, etc.‎


e-‎  Preparing students to pursue their PhD education in different fields of knowledge within the ‎humanities and social sciences.‎


f-‎  Exposing students to the impact of cross-cultural exchange on both national and global levels.


g-‎  Enabling faculty members to develop teaching materials and programs which cover agreed ‎course objectives, whilst allowing them the academic freedom to decide on the appropriate ‎means to achieve these objectives. ‎


h-‎  Maintaining and creating appropriate opportunities for faculty members to pursue personal ‎development, research, teaching and professional consultancy in accordance with the university ‎agreed procedures.​

1. This plan conforms to the valid regulations of the programs of graduate studies at the University of Jordan.
2. Specialization of Admission:
- The first Priority: Bachelor's in Translation
-The second priority: Bachelor's in Applied English
-The third priority: Bachelor's in English Language and Literature
Second: Special Condition
Passing the English language proficiency exam according to the relevant policies of the Ministry of Higher Education.​

Required Scores of English Language Tests

Please note that applicants who have graduated from an English-speaking country are exempt from the English exam requirement.

Required Documents:

After checking your eligibility for the program, your electronic application at the next step must include the following documents compiled into a single PDF file (with a size of less than 6 MB):


1.  A copy of the General Secondary Certificate (high school or Tawjihi).

2.  A copy of the bachelor's degree certificate is required for master's students. For doctoral students, a copy of the master's degree certificate with a rating of at least 'Good' is required.

3.  Transcripts for all academic years of the bachelor's degree for master's students, and transcripts for all academic years of both the bachelor's and master's degree for doctoral students.

4. The grading system used by the student's university (for graduates of non-Jordanian universities).

5. A personal photograph.

6.  A copy of the passport.
