The MA programme in Linguistics at UJ focuses on the latest developments and trends in linguistics and ‎linguistic theory. It essentially pursues the academic investigation of language as a human phenomenon ‎in its historical, psychological, and social dimensions, through effective and innovative postgraduate ‎teaching and high-quality faculty and student research which incorporates the major disciplines of ‎linguistics (i.e. phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, etc.)‎


Program Aims:


The Master of Linguistics ​(MA) program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the complex and multifaceted nature of language. At its core, the program seeks to delve into the structural, theoretical, and applied aspects of linguistics, encompassing phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. Through rigorous coursework and hands-on research opportunities, students develop advanced analytical and critical thinking skills essential for conducting original research in linguistics. They explore interdisciplinary connections with fields such as psychology, anthropology, computer science, and education, gaining insights into the cognitive, social, and cultural dimensions of language. Please note that applicants who have graduated from an English-speaking country are exempt from the English exam requirement.

Required Documents:

After checking your eligibility for the program, your electronic application at the next step must include the following documents compiled into a single PDF file (with a size of less than 6 MB):


1.  A copy of the General Secondary Certificate (high school or Tawjihi).

2.  A copy of the bachelor's degree certificate is required for master's students. For doctoral students, a copy of the master's degree certificate with a rating of at least 'Good' is required.

3.  Transcripts for all academic years of the bachelor's degree for master's students, and transcripts for all academic years of both the bachelor's and master's degree for doctoral students.

4. The grading system used by the student's university (for graduates of non-Jordanian universities).

5. A personal photograph.

6.  A copy of the passport.
