 The specialization aims to equip the student with applied skills in physical and human geography and modern technology skills in remote sensing and geographic information systems.

Program Vision


The Department of Geography strives to be one of the distinguished departments of geography at the global level and to be a major center for learning, and for the department’s graduates to be able to compete successfully with graduates of international universities.


Program message


The Geography Department, through the application of effective teaching strategies, active learning,   and the use of modern geography laboratories, develops students' general skills, such as critical thinking, creative thinking, and effective communication skills. The department also cultivates students' specialized skills in geography and in modern geographic technologies, such as remote sensing and geographic information systems. Furthermore, the department strives to equip its students with specialized geographic knowledge, enabling them to work in diverse fields and pursue graduate studies at the University of Jordan and other prestigious international universities. The department is also committed to fostering noble values ​​in students, particularly the teachings of Islam, patriotism, and belief in Arab unity, and to cultivating positive attitudes, especially in areas such as tolerance, acceptance of differing opinions, and teamwork.  


Program Objectives


   (a) Developing students' specialized skills


      1. Applying statistical methods in the study of geographical phenomena


      2. Employing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the study of geographical issues


      3. Using modern cartographic methods, maps, and aerial photographs in the study of geographical issues.



(b) Providing students with the necessary knowledge in the field of geography


      1. Interpreting the characteristics of spatial distributions


      2. Interpreting the processes, interactions, and changes that occur in natural systems at different levels


      3. Evaluating the interrelationships between humans and the environment


      4. Clarifying the diverse geographical models


      5. Analysis of the economic, social, political, and cultural processes that influence and are influenced by human activity.



(c) Preparing students for work after graduation in multiple fields or to pursue postgraduate studies


      1. Working after graduation in fields other than teaching, such as working in municipalities, city planning departments, and others.


      2. The ability to compete after graduation with graduates from other universities.


      3. Ability to complete postgraduate studies



(d) Developing students' general skills and promoting their positive attitudes


      1. The ability to think critically and creatively


      2. Ability to work within a team


      3. Practice lifelong learning

The plan is consistent with the instructions of the current graduate programs.
Acceptable majors:
- First priority: Bachelor's degree in Geography.

- Second priority: Bachelor’s degree in Regional and Urban Planning, Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Bachelor’s degree in Development, Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Bachelor’s degree in Tourism and Archaeology, Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems.

Required Scores of English Language Tests

Please note that applicants who have graduated from an English-speaking country are exempt from the English exam requirement.

After checking your eligibility for the program, your electronic application at the next step must include the following documents compiled into a single PDF file (with a size of less than 6 MB):


1.  A copy of the General Secondary Certificate (high school or Tawjihi).

2.  A copy of the bachelor's degree certificate is required for master's students. For doctoral students, a copy of the master's degree certificate with a rating of at least 'Good' is required.

3.  Transcripts for all academic years of the bachelor's degree for master's students, and transcripts for all academic years of both the bachelor's and master's degree for doctoral students.

4. The grading system used by the student's university (for graduates of non-Jordanian universities).

5. A personal photograph.

6.  A copy of the passport.
