​Background to the program and subject area:
   ​ Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics is one of the newly established departments at the School of Rehabilitation Sciences / The University of Jordan. The program started in the academic year 1999/2000 and was introduced to handle the shortage in qualified O& P personnel in the MENA region.

The field of Prosthetics and Orthotics is concerned with evaluating and designing prostheses for all levels of amputation, whether congenital or acquired, and manufacturing orthotic devices, for different age groups, in order to improve functions and perform daily activities.

The BSc program offered by the department aims to provide the required knowledge and skills to the students so that the graduates can work in hospitals and rehabilitation centers to deal professionally with different cases.

To date, the number of graduates of the program is 250 students.
 
The department established a strategic partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) aimed at developing department staff members and laboratory supervisors in terms of developing practical skills as well as developing the study plan and working to obtain international accreditation from the International Society of Orthotics & Prosthetics.

Program Aims:

1. To develop in students the importance, relevance, and inntegration of theoretical knowledge with professional clinical practice to develop rehabilitation solutions to patients with disability.

2. To provide intellectually stimiulating learning experience that develops and promotes creativity and problem-solving skills in students.

3. To improve in students the level of interaction with the local community by providing orthotic and prosthetic services to patients from local community.

4. To continuously update teaching and clinical practice by introducing and training students on the latest technology in the field of orthotics and prosthetics.

5. to work on applying and maintaining the requirements of the local and the international accreditation guidelines.

Admission Requirements

Students are admitted to the program after they pass the higher secondary exams held by Ministry of Education and according to the grade requirements set by the Higher Education Council/Unified Acceptance Coordination Unit, and this is in accordance with the Bylaws and Regulations of the University of Jordan in regular and international courses of study.


To enroll at the University of Jordan, you need to meet the minimum required GPA for the General Secondary Education Certificate;

The required GPA is 60 %

To start the admission process, you first need:

 


1.  A copy of the passport.



2.  For international students who hold a Jordanian high school certificate (i.e. Tawjehi), you need to provide your Transcript certified from the Jordanian Ministry of Education.

2.1 For International students with a Saudi certificate, you need to get an equivalency from the Ministry of Education in Jordan ( after 2016).



2.2 For international students holding Arabic certificates, you need to have your certificate certified by the Ministry of Education in Jordan.



3.2. For international students holding an international certificate from Jordan (e.g. I.B., SAT, I.G.C.E​, etc.​.), you need to start the equivalency process at the Jordanian Ministry of education (https://apps.moe.gov.jo/apps/certificate/).



4.2. For international students holding an international certificate (e.g. I.B., SAT, I.G.C.E., etc.​.),​​ from Arab countries,  you need to start the equivalency process at the Jordanian  Ministry of education (https://apps.moe.gov.jo/apps/certificate/) or at the Ministry of education in your country showing the average and the branch.



5.2.  For international students holding an international certificate (e.g. I.B., SAT, I.G.C.E., etc..), from non-Arab countries, you need to start the equivalency process at the Jordanian Ministry of education​ (https://apps.moe.gov.jo/apps/certificate/).



(Important note: If a student is unable to provide the university with the equivalency of the certificate before arriving to Jordan, they can do this process during the first semester).
