The PhD in Mechanical Engineering was established as a result of the collaboration of two leading institutions; The University of Jordan (UJ) and Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) in Germany, in 2024. This program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in both coursework and research, integrating the academic excellence of UJ with the advanced research capabilities of TUHH. Students will spend 4 semesters in UJ and (4-6) semesters in TUHH. Thus, the intended period for this program is 8 semesters, and at most 10 semesters. Students will begin their PhD journey by completing a set of rigorous courses at UJ, with the option to take one full semester online. Selected courses will be taught jointly by professors from both UJ and TUHH, ensuring a broad and comprehensive learning experience. The courses are designed to deepen the students' understanding of theoretical and applied concepts in mechanical engineering, preparing them for advanced research. Students will be guided by expert professors from both UJ and TUHH throughout their studies, ensuring diverse perspectives and mentorship.

First: General Rules & Conditions:

1-This plan conforms to valid regulations of the programs of graduate studies.

2-Specialties of Admission:

-      First Priority: M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering.

-    ​Second Priority: M.Sc. in Renewable Energy (based on a BSc in an Engineering field), M.Sc.  in Chemical Engineering, M.Sc.  in Civil Engineering, M.Sc. Industrial Engineering. with the registration of remedial courses determined by the department.


​Second:  Special Conditions:

-The applicant must sign a declaration of readiness to travel and study in Germany.

-The applicant must study the German language and achieve an A1 proficiency level before registering for the PhD dissertation hours.

-The student must publish a scientific paper in a reputable journal (Q1/Q2) before starting work on the dissertation, as an alternative to the PhD qualifying exam (exception).

-Two supervisors, one from each university, must be appointed for the PhD dissertation starting from the student's first semester in the program (exception).

Please note that applicants who have graduated from an English-speaking country are exempt from the English exam requirement.

Required Documents:

After checking your eligibility for the program, your electronic application at the next step must include the following documents compiled into a single PDF file (with a size of less than 6 MB):


1.  A copy of the General Secondary Certificate (high school or Tawjihi).

2.  A copy of the bachelor's degree certificate is required for master's students. For doctoral students, a copy of the master's degree certificate with a rating of at least 'Good' is required.

3.  Transcripts for all academic years of the bachelor's degree for master's students, and transcripts for all academic years of both the bachelor's and master's degree for doctoral students.

4. The grading system used by the student's university (for graduates of non-Jordanian universities).

5. A personal photograph.

6.  A copy of the passport.
