General eligibility conditions

To be eligible as a regular student, the candidate must meet the general eligibility conditions (section XI) of the Educational Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

Required diplomas and admission thresholds: Quebec

To meet the Université de Montréal average of 3.0 out of 4.3, candidates from this province must meet the following requirements:

Accepted diploma: Baccalaureate, Bachelor; duration of 3 years, or another undergraduate degree deemed equivalent.

Conditions specific to this program

To be eligible as a regular student in the M. Mus. program, jazz performance and composition option, the candidate must:

  • meet the general eligibility conditions (section XI) of the Educational Regulations for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies;
  • have obtained, in their previous studies, an average of at least 3.3 out of 4.3 or the equivalent
  • demonstrate a good knowledge of French. All students who have obtained their undergraduate degree (or its equivalent) in a non-French-speaking institution must take one of the French tests accepted by the University of Montreal (see the Communication Center website written: http://cce.umontreal.ca The result of the test is not eliminatory, but may lead to the imposition of a certain number of French courses deemed necessary for the success of the program.
  • hold an undergraduate degree in the discipline or hold a 3rd cycle diploma from the Conservatory or demonstrate academic training deemed equivalent by the dean;
  • submit to a 30-minute instrumental audition, minimum three pieces, including two pieces chosen from a repertoire of 20 memorized standards (with theme and improvisation) and one piece of your choice. During the audition, the candidate must submit the list of 20 memorized standards to the members of the jury;
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of English.
