It is the basis of many disciplines and key to important research objects - the ancient Hebrew language. At the Department of Protestant Theology, students have the opportunity to learn the basics of the ancient Hebrew language and literature and their position in the intellectual history of the ancient Near East in three different courses.


There is the possibility to complete Ancient Hebraic Studies as a bachelor's degree, as a minor in a master's degree - provided that the examination regulations for the respective major allow this - or as a minor in a bachelor's degree. During the course, Semitic and general linguistics, literary studies and Jewish studies are also dealt with. It conveys the ability to interpret Hebrew texts from the Old Testament in a linguistically competent manner, taking into account the sub-areas mentioned, and to classify them in Israelite-Jewish literary history, the history of Israel and the history of reception in Jewish and Christian tradition and theology.
