As part of the course, current topics such as migration, urban and rural transformation, consumption, governance, family change, management of natural resources and climate change are dealt with based on different regions of the world.
The course follows the concept of "research-based learning", in which the development of theoretical questions, the development of one's own research design, the acquisition and application of advanced ethnographic methods and the comparative analysis of existing sources come together. The Institute of Social Anthropology is networked with numerous international partners in teaching and research. The project orientation in particular allows students to prepare for a career in a variety of exciting fields of activity. The program is one of the largest MA courses in ethnology nationwide.
