The European Master in Classical Cultures is an international master’s degree in classical studies. The students complete this interdisciplinary course at at least two different language universities (at most three). Graduates acquire the master’s degree from the universities at which they studied and completed the relevant academic achievements. Twelve universities from nine countries (Germany, France, Greece, Italy, Austria, Spain, Poland, Turkey and Cyprus) are involved in the development of the course. The core area comprises the three subject areas of Ancient History, Classical Philology and Archaeology.
The course provides students with in-depth knowledge and understanding of the history, literature and material and immaterial legacies of Greco-Roman antiquity in the Mediterranean and neighboring regions in a European and interdisciplinary framework. In addition, the linguistic and intercultural skills of the students and the awareness of the naturalness of international cooperation are to be strengthened. During the internship phase of the course, the students gain experience in leading institutions such as the German Archaeological Institute. A structural element of the course is a mentoring program that enables optimal support for the students.
