The Master's degree in Romance Literatures is dedicated to current literary, media and cultural studies issues in the various Romance literatures. Within the master's program there is the possibility of a comparative orientation with the choice of a second Romance language and literature (French, Italian, Spanish or Portuguese). However, students also have the opportunity to concentrate on a Romance language and its literature. Important research focuses of the course are the literature of the Renaissance and the 18th century as well as the literature, culture and media of Latin America. An integral part of the course is a one-semester stay at a partner university in a Romansh-speaking country. Exchange programs exist with the universities of Madrid.

Admission Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a Romance subject at the University of Hamburg or in a comparable course at another university.
  • For the comparative profile (A): proven language skills in two Romance languages ​​(Spanish, French, Italian or Portuguese)
  • For the individual philological profile (B): proven language skills in a Romance language (Spanish, French, Italian or Portuguese)
